REFLECTION
1. Describe your process when creating your letter project. How was the process helpful or not so helpful to you?
The process of creating the letter project was helpful. The most helpful was the initial draft because it allowed me to make two of my favorite designs bigger on paper - from many tiny thumbnail sketches - and perfect parts of it before moving on to the final.
2. How did you arrive with your concept/idea for your letter? How did you represent this concept visually in your design? (Give 2 examples)
In the beginning process of the project, we made a thought map of everything our letter reminded us of. During that, I went of from my name to my culture to a dragon, since a dragon easily represents Chinese culture with Chinese New Year and others. Although the dragon I drew isn't completely a Chinese dragon (because that dragon is like one of the hardest to draw), I incorporated parts of it, such as the flying facial hair. I also represented this concept by the color. In the final, I included gold and red which are tradition colors of a Chinese dragon; also red is a big part of Chinese culture (meaning luck and with red envelopes).
3. What was the most challenging aspect of this project for you? Why?
The most challenging part of this project was the coloring. For me coloring was something that either ruined the drawing or made it better (make it or break it). So trying to make the perfect shade and color to use was difficult. The color gold was especially difficult because I found making and blending that color was easily and prone to mistake. Then next, the red scales gave me some difficulty since if I went to dark, it will stand out way too much, which I don't want; instead I want it to be lightly there so you can see it like you can faintly see scales on a dragon.
A second close to most difficulty was drawing the head because while drawing it, it didn't turn out as I wanted it like in my initial draft. The feature that gave me the most trouble in the head portion was the eyes and mouth since to me it looked awkward or slightly wrong. This caused me continuously erase and redraw it.
4. Are you satisfied with your project? Explain your answer.
I am satisfied with my project. The color turned out well, I really like the gold as it looked quite good and very close to the color gold. I also liked how the sharpie outline made it look better, bolder and stand out more. However, I feel that it looks better in reality rather than in a picture since like the picture above, the red looks like it's randomly there because you can't see the scales.
5. If you can change anything about your design, what would you change or do differently?
If I could change something about my design, I would have the dragon keep wrapping around the A instead of the body making the shape because it would allow me to color more purple all around instead of just the bottom portion.

I think that it is interesting that you named your design so cartoon like and to add on to the cartoon feeling, your chose to use soft color pencils instead of something like marker.

ReplyDeleteI like how you incorporated your heritage into your art. I also like the detail in the dragon as well as how it forms the letter A. Very good.
